Call for Review - Proposal to Update the GSA Bylaws

March 2, 2021

The time has come for the GSA to consider revisions to its own bylaws, and as such the internal revision committee is pleased to present its proposal for a new version of the bylaws.

Per our constitution, all proposed amendments to the GSA's governing documents must be sent to the General Membership for public comment and review at least two weeks before a vote can be held.  This is an opportunity for graduate students to offer their input on ways the bylaws can be improved so that the GSA can more effectively serve its membership, you!

Attached you will find the latest version of the proposed bylaws as well as a list of what exactly the proposed bylaws will be changing.  Long story short, the proposed bylaws seek to do the following:

  • Explicitly state whether each entry is applicable to the Executive Council and Delegate Assembly.
  • Establishes a more comprehensive set of regulations for future GSA elections.
  • Modifies several existing policies for the Delegate Assembly to function independently as a governing body.
  • Defines responsibilities for two new Executive Officer positions, pending a vote by the General Membership.
  • Updates the structure from the current version of the bylaws to allow additional proposals to be added more easily in the future.

The Delegate Assembly will be voting on the new version of the bylaws on March 16th.  Any comments, concerns, and suggestions beforehand are welcome and can be directed to the delegate representing your department or the GSA address at gsa@ucmerced.edu.
